Leave your drama, dance and musical theatre clubs in our hands

“The Mainstream Theatre Arts company has provided our pupils with excellent opportunities to develop a wide range of skills. I have seen considerable changes in pupil confidence, self esteem and performance skills with dramatic improvements in their acting skills. The comprehensive modules have culminated in fantastic performances which have been shared and celebrated with both parents and staff. I would wholeheartedly recommend the company to deliver both quality curricular and extra-curricular performing arts education.”

We run regular extra-curricular activities in dance, drama or musical theatre at a large number of schools throughout the north west in the form of after-school clubs or breakfast clubs. These are usually weekly and about an hour in length and usually include a mixture of year groups.

In some schools these clubs are so popular that they have waiting lists, are offered to different year groups in different terms or are run more than once each week to cope with demand. We have to put a maximum of 30 on membership simply to ensure that every member gets sufficient attention and opportunities to express his- or herself during the class.

Fun classes with real benefits

As these classes are not during curricular time, they are designed to be great fun so that pupils want to keep coming every week. However there is still a very strong emphasis on learning performance skills and on putting across the discipline, effort and teamwork required to put together a performance suitable for an audience.

There are lots of other benefits that high quality performing arts tuition brings with it—a great many teachers and parents tell us they have noticed these benefits in their children after attending our classes—such as increased confidence and self-esteem, verbal skills, social skills, working uncompetitively with others, improved posture, physical fitness and creativity that are very important side benefits to all of the classes we teach.

New Extended Schools combined performing arts club

Mainstream Theatre Arts has devised a brand new format of after-school club with an exciting mix of acting, dance and singing that fits perfectly into the current proposals for Extended Schools services. It provides pupils with a creative activity that is great fun to do, keeps them healthy and safe, stimulates their imaginations and allows them to achieve something positive week after week by working non-competitively as a team.

The new class is based on Mainstream's hugely-popular StageWise class that runs on Saturdays at its private academies. MTA has been running hour-long extra-curricular classes in drama, dance and musical theatre at primary schools throughout the north west for a number of years with great success and acclaim, and the new class will be available both to existing and new clients, whether or not they are currently taking part in the Extended Schools programme. The existing hour-long class will still be available for schools that want the shorter class.

After-School StageWise provides training and practice for pupils in a mixture of physical, verbal, social and mental skills in a class that is hugely enjoyable for people of all ages. The class works well as a standalone leisure activity with educational benefits, but also provides excellent opportunities for creating short performances to show to the rest of the school and even for parents to be invited to.

Regular performances

If required, our extra-curricular clubs can be geared around putting on regular short performances that can be shown in assemblies, in school time or after school for parents, staff and other pupils. These performances are very popular as they give the participants a great deal of pride and satisfaction in their achievements, entertain others in the school and impress them with what they could achieve and help to bring a sense of community to the school as parents and other friends and relatives see the work that their children have achieved.

School holiday clubs

MTA can provide different types of holiday activities for young people during school breaks that are very enjoyable and worthwhile in many different formats, including:

All workshops and rehearsals are run by MTA’s experienced staff, and performances include professional lighting, sound, props and costumes tailored to the production and supervised or operated by specialist designers and technicians, transforming the final show into a spectacular theatre production.

Combine clubs with PPA or other curricular work and save money

Extra-curricular clubs are often part of a package that includes PPA or other regular curricular work. Most schools make a small charge to parents for these clubs, which can make a large contribution to our fees or even pay for them completely and still be priced at a much lower rate than that charged by private drama and dance schools.
