Theatre-in-Education

Learning through theatre

Our professional actor-teachers can take drama into schools, performing specially-written educational plays and working afterwards with pupils on the subjects they cover.

Our plays on bullying, drugs, alcohol and other important social subjects have toured primary and secondary schools throughout the north west.

Each TIE programme includes a short performance of a play that has been specially-written and directed by Mainstream’s in-house creative team and delivered by a group of professional actor-teachers and an experienced facilitator.

Different programmes have different additional elements to accompany the performance, ranging from a hotseating session and a printed teachers’ pack to a full day of drama-based activities around the topic culminating in a performance by pupils to the rest of the school.
Our TIE programmes have been put together after careful consultation with the commissioning groups and extensive research. Each programme is usually booked as a block of performances in a number of schools in a particular area by the local police schools’ liaison department or local authority.

We always welcome enquiries from police, health authorities, local authorities or other bodies about our existing productions or about the possibility of creating a new programme on a different subject.

Our TIE programmes have toured extensively throughout Greater Manchester, but especially in Tameside, Salford, Bury and Trafford.
